About Louis Stedman-Bryce
Louis is a trailblazing former Member of the European Parliament, making history as the first Black parliamentarian elected in Scotland in 2019. He served on the Subcommittee for Security & Defence, the Development Committee, and as part of the Delegations for Relations with the Pan-African Parliament and the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly.
Throughout his tenure, he was a powerful voice in addressing systemic inequality within EU institutions. One of his most memorable interventions came on the floor of the European Parliament during plenary, when he delivered a striking observation on the absence of diversity within the EU institutions.
“If we want to see diversity in the EU institutions, then the best way to do that is to wait for the cleaning staff to leave in the morning and watch the faces of the white MEPs that come in as they are leaving.”
The remark reverberated across the chamber, laying bare an uncomfortable truth that few had dared to voice so plainly. He stepped down in January 2020, following the UK’s exit from the EU
